Comrade in Peace
Allen Cooper, a well-known social justice activist, passed away earlier this month. Allen was the Green Party candidate for State House of Representatives in 2000 for District 12 in Albu(r)querque and received 8% of the vote. For a long time, Allen was the guy with the megaphone at many a peace action. A public memorial will take place on September 24, from 4:00 p. m. to 8:00 p. m. at the ABQ Center for Peace and Justice. Rest well.
Ballot Victories
The Green Party is on the ballot in Pennsylvania and North Carolina for 2022. These are important victories especially after the shenanigans in New York that appear to be keeping minor and alternative parties off the ballot unless they are fusion parties for the Democrats and Republicans. Voters want meaningful choices.
Oil & Gas Extraction in Valencia County?
On Thursday, July 14, the Valencia County Board of Commissioners will hold a public hearing at 5:00 p. m. on a proposed Natural Resources Overlay Zone at the Los Lunas Transportation Center, 101 Courthouse Rd. SE in Los Lunas. Sign-up at 4:30 p. m. to give public comment. Remarks limited to three minutes per the published agenda.

There is significant concern that this proposed overlay zone would open up the West Mesa and Rio Grande Valley to drilling, including the possibility of fracking and without standard protections. It is not clear from readily available public information where the overlay zone would be located.

Call for a Real GREEN NEW DEAL
Seriously, call President Biden and Senator Schumer.
The EcoAction Committee wants you to call on Tuesday, May 24, 2022, or whenever you are able.
- President Biden: 202-456-1111 or https://www.whitehouse.gov/contact/
- Senator Schumer: (202) 224-6542 or https://www.schumer.senate.gov/contact/email-chuck
Call for a rapid transition away from fossil fuels and funding for mitigation of environmental harms to disproportionately affected communities.
Green Perspectives and Deep Dives
So much of news dissemination today is superficial and jingoistic. Take a look at two publications that explore and debate topics that gather headlines but are short on probing, intellectual analysis. Green Horizon Magazine was founded in 2003 and is still available in hard copy. Green Social Thought began as an on-line publication in 2015.
